Left Nothing on the Table
Wow! I just laid on the ground for like 10-15 minutes after that workout! Drenched in sweat, just exhausted! Felt Great!
Ok, so last week I was writing about how I am increasing the weights every time I hit that 6th rep on a set, right? Well, today I was doing my incline bench press and I hit my sixth rep and it was hard to hit that sixth. I told myself no excuses up the weight by ten. I looked at my setup though and thought, ok if I’m not able to do four than am I good, or should I say am I safe? Yes, well technically yes, but my phone was placed where it could get broke and I thought ok I could just move it, then I thought how would I get out of the cage? Ok, I could push the bench back and slide under the safety bar. I thought is this the safest set up? No. I wasn’t as concerned with the incline as I am for the the flat as the weight on the incline would hit my chest and roll down to either my waist or the safety bar. I had the safety bar in a position for the flat bench (the most dangerous exercise in the gym. More on that in a later post) so I could quickly transition myself to the flat bench and continue lifting.
I decided if I am going to continue to lift heavier and heavier weights as I go on, then I need to get this into the safest positions possible, as I am working out alone. So I moved the safety bar up to the position that would be just below the bottom of my rep and I am thankful I did! The next set with the increased weight I went to push the fourth rep and just before I reached the peak my arms failed and I could no longer push the weight up. The bar came down and hit the safety bar and I easily slid out underneath it. I then went to each side and put the bar back on the hooks and when my timer was up I attempted to lift the weights again, this time successfully hitting the fourth rep and racking! Taught me a valuable lesson on doing what is safest and not what is most convenient. Definitely pushed myself to the most weight I was capable of lifting today and I felt it lol!
On a different note, I plan to film my first YouTube video today! So, hopefully I can get that up soon and I’ll post a link when I do. I think if anything I am learning that progress is more important than perfection and the only way to become more perfect is to keep doing the work and improving every time. That is going to be my Youtube approach and I plan on just changing my focus from wanting to be perfect to being more concerned with putting content out there and improving over time.
